Visiting Chicago | A Complete Guide

Chicago is the best place to be during Christmas time minus the windy or snowy feel as tis the season. The festivities are white and wintery the best feel for a snowy Christmas true to seeing a Santa on his sledge with flying reindeer's  across the sky if you are lucky and it is snowing around this time.  Well frankly, each season in Chicago has its unique charm be it Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall or warning Storms too.

This travel post was long due as many of my bloggers had requested it. Say it a demand post, my very late thanksgiving post, a post to be much grateful for this year 2017 or a farewell post to this year 2017. Here is a detailed post to visit this windy Chi town, do write to me if you want more information.

We have been local to this city since quite a while now. If you are local then you have more time to ease your travel and explore at your own pace but if you are visiting Chicago for a short span then this is the post you won't miss out. A maximum of 5 days is pretty good enough for a satisfied Chicago sightseeing and cover most of the tourist attractions.

The best way to see Chicago's top attractions is through the City pass it offers. It is the best deal you can get hold of. The best bang for your buck. Plus watch out for Groupon deals too.

If planning to visit Chicago during a certain event or a season do search the things to do and plan and book tickets in advance to avoid the rush to enjoy your trip the most as it is always busy and humming with tourists. Do google sites like Tripadvisor and related blogs to visit or experience local special events happening during a particular season.

The top attractions cover most of the clustered places around Chicago Downtown, so its best to stay in / near Downtown to get the most of your buck. While booking hotel prefer the one with a view and opt for the top floors to enjoy the best downtown view at night.

Chicago Downtown is a dream to stay as it is a close vicinity and easily accessible to all you want to do, happening places, local sightseeing, amazing architectural landmarks and office buildings, museums, theaters, train stations, beach, parks and much more.

Chicago Downtown Attractions

This map will be useful in planning the order of sight seeing.

Choose what interest's you and the one's you are travelling with.

Best of Chicago downtown can be covered by foot as it is all walkable distance.

Tips while on the go

- Stay hydrated. Carry water and snacks along.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes.
- Wear weather appropriate clothes as you are in a windy city remember.
- Book and plan for food and tickets prior always if you are a tourist to avoid rush and waiting in looong lines and have ease of travel.
- Carry your gadgets and chargers along carefully and take loads of pictures else you would miss the thrilling memorable poses.

My recommendations for the must see attractions for all ages

- Sears / Willis tower , sky deck is a must ( both day view and night view )
- John Hancock center , 360 is a must ( both day view and night view )
- Shedd Aquarium, It has the bestest shows during Chirstmas time starting from November. Must visit place if you have kids.
- Alder Planetarium. Do not miss food at their cafeteria and nothing beats the Lake Michigan view from there.
- Navy Pier. You can spend an entire day around here. Do watch out for Special shows and events if you are there.
- Millenium Park
- Cloud Gate
- Buckingham Fountain
Crown Fountain.
- North Avenue beach. Best place to be in the Summer's.

Lastly, I do recommend
- Take a River side Walk
OR
- Take a Chicago architectural boat tour if you have time to see Chicago's architectural building's up close. Be sure to Book in advance.

If on foot you may visit the other attractions too mentioned in the link and map to cover them all and more.

For Food lovers

I do suggest to visit Uno Pizza - Chicago's first deep dish pizza * Do book prior if possible.

Also, India House for some good Indian food. I relish their mango kulfi the most.

Chicago downtown is a multi cultural food heaven with good restaurants and Food trucks too if you can sight and get hold of them. A wide range of Food Options for all food types, believe me you are in for a treat. I recommend pre-booking your spot if you are sure to visit as downtown restaurants are too busy and with pouring tourists.

Happy sightseeing you all!!!

Wishing you and your family Merry Chirstmas and A very Happy New Year .
